Civil Rights

Civil rights are the cornerstone of the American republic. The Bill of Rights, introduced by James Madison on June 8, 1789, was a condition for the ratification of the Constitution. Comprising the first ten amendments to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights was written by Madison as a means to limit government power and protect individual liberties.

Our civil rights have been under attack by Colorado Democrats. We have witnessed a total disregard for our most basic rights. Freedom of religion has been targeted, our speech suppressed, gun rights systematically dismantled, excessive fines and property seizures imposed, and countless other violations committed. If one right is violated, all rights are at risk.

Republicans believe that all levels of government have a social responsibility to protect the rights of citizens, thereby contributing to domestic tranquility, peace, and order. Republicans also recognize that when a free people lose their rights, it is nearly impossible to regain them through political means.

Republicans, the party that abolished slavery during the Civil War, have long championed a colorblind society where individuals are judged by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. Republicans reject the divisive "divide and conquer" tactics that Democrats often employ to gain political advantage.

Republicans once again came to fight for equal rights when the Democrat majority nearly blocked the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Republicans have always believed in equality, merit, and that a free people are free to choose their own destiny.

Since 1829, Democrats have imposed policies that oppressed the American people. From seceding from the Union to the internment of Japanese Americans in 1941, attempting to block the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and now promoting institutional discrimination through DEI initiatives, their actions have often contradicted the ideals of equality. In contrast, Republicans believe that all Americans are created equal, and this principle should guide policy decisions.
